Compromised Scientist Downplays Lab Leak Theory In Congressional Hearing On COVID-19 Origins

Congress heard from a compromised witness in its most recent hearing on the origins of COVID-19 Wednesday morning.

Stanley Perlman, a professor of microbiology and immunology at the University of Iowa, was called to testify before the “Principles for Outbreak Investigation: COVID-19 and Future Infectious Diseases” hearing on the origins of COVID-19.

Perlman, who came under fire in 2014 for conducting dangerous research on respiratory viruses, recently signed a letter “express[ing] solidarity with our professional colleagues in China” and doubling down on the theory that “SARS-CoV-2 most likely originated in nature and not in a laboratory.”

“Unsubstantiated allegations were being raised about the source of the COVID-19 outbreak and the integrity of our peers who were diligently working to learn more about the newly recognised virus, SARS-CoV-2, while struggling to care for the many patients admitted to hospital with severe illness in Wuhan and elsewhere in China,” the letter from earlier this month stated.

Infamous EcoHealth Alliance head Dr. Peter Daszak, who received funding from the National Institutes of Health to work with the Wuhan lab and thanked Dr. Anthony Fauci for minimizing the lab leak theory in exchange for pushing a “natural origin” story, also signed the letter.

“The strongest clue from new, credible, and peer-reviewed evidence in the scientific literature is that the virus evolved in nature, while suggestions of a laboratory-leak source of the pandemic remain without scientifically validated evidence that directly supports it in peer-reviewed scientific journals,” the letter claims.

In addition to Perlman’s resistance to the lab leak theory which Democrats, corporate media, and Big Tech all banded together to downplay, he is a member of the Lancet COVID Commission Task Force researching the origins of COVID-19. The force was chaired by Daszak up until he was forced to recuse himself from the commission last month, shortly after he expanded his disclosure to include that he “joined the WHO-China joint global study on the animal origins of SARS-CoV-2 towards the end of 2020 and is currently a member.”

During the hearing, Perlman’s skepticism about the Wuhan lab leak shined through as he repeated the narrative that the virus came from an animal in nature.

Perlman called for “data transparency” and “international collaboration” but went on to tout the compromised World Health Organization and CDC as “natural candidates for working with these studies.” He concluded his opening statement by doubling down on the animal origins theory.

“It is evident from the COVID-19 pandemic that is necessary to obtain as many samples as possible at the early stage of the pandemic for a broad group of wild companion and farmed animals as well as from humans with unexplained respiratory or other diseases to have the best chance or perhaps the only chance of determining how the virus crosses species to infect humans,” Perlman said.

Perlman’s sentiments were echoed by other scientists asked to testify in the hearing.

“If there is an argument to be made about the possibility of a laboratory origin here, I think we have to consider first the possibility that there was unrecognized presence of this virus either in the laboratory through samples that were collected or an encounter by a laboratorian out in the field and that the infection, perhaps was asymptomatic or it’s simply not recognized,” Dr. David Relman, a professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine said.

Despite Relman’s claims, he did acknowledge that the research occurring at the Wuhan Institute of Virology was “risky.”

New deadlier coronavirus variant that could kill one in three infected people ‘a realistic possibility’, SAGE warns

In a paper on the “long term evolution” of coronavirus, SAGE also says the virus could result in “much less severe disease” in older people and those who are clinically vulnerable in the long term.

The emergence of a new COVID variant with a similar death rate to MERS, which kills one in three infected people, is a “realistic possibility”, the government’s scientific advisers have warned.

However the experts also say the virus could result in “much less severe disease” in older people and those who are clinically vulnerable in the long term.

In a paper published on Friday, the scientists outline the chances that a new variant will evade current vaccines, saying one of the causes is “almost certain” to happen.

The document written by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) looked at the “long term evolution of SARS-CoV-2”, the virus that causes COVID-19.

It said the eradication of the virus “will be unlikely” and the scientists have “high confidence in stating that there will always be variants”.

They considered a scenario where a variant causes severe disease in a greater proportion of the population than has previously occurred, with similar death rates to other coronaviruses SARS (10%) or MERS (35%).

The experts said this could be caused by a “recombination” between two variants of concern or variants under investigation, such as between beta and alpha or delta variants.

SAGE warned that the likelihood of a more severe variant under these circumstances was a “realistic possibility”.

It set out measures the government should consider to combat this, including minimising the “introduction of new variants from other territories (to reduce risk of recombination between variants)”.

Ministers confirmed this week that England would allow fully vaccinated visitors from both the EU and the United States to arrive without needing to quarantine from 2 August.

SAGE also looked at a scenario where the coronavirus becomes like one “that causes common colds, but with much less severe disease predominantly in the old or clinically vulnerable.”

It said that while it was “unlikely in the short term”, there is a “realistic possibility in the long term”.

Meanwhile, SAGE said a scenario where a variant evades current vaccines because of a process known as “antigenic drift” is “almost certain”.

It suggests that the UK needs to continue vaccinating vulnerable age groups “at regular periods with updated vaccines” to the dominant variants to increase their protection.

Clinical epidemiologist Dr Deepti Gurdasani said the SAGE paper was a “stark warning”.

Writing on Twitter, she said: “Given the impact Delta has already had, and in light of recent evidence from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), we cannot afford any more new variants emerging – we need to take preventive action now.”

She added that the SAGE paper “makes clear that the virus becoming less virulent is unlikely in the short term”.

“So for all those who suggest that we should live with it, and it’ll become like seasonal coronaviruses and benign, doesn’t look like that’s likely to happen anytime soon,” Dr Gurdasani wrote.

COVID infection rates have continued to rise across England, Wales and Northern Ireland – but dropped in Scotland, according to the latest estimates.

Data from the Office for National Statistics shows that in the week ending 24 July, approximately one in 65 people were estimated to have had the disease in England.

More than 5.8 million coronavirus cases have been recorded in the UK during the pandemic, with nearly 130,000 people dying within 28 days of a positive test, according to government figures.

LIARS: Study Cited by CDC to Push New Mask Guidance was Rejected by Peer Review and Based on Vaccine Not Used in US

A study used by the CDC to push for continued masking in the US was debunked and rejected by peers in India. The study was based on

The study was based on a model that used non-US approved vaccines.

The Daily Caller reported:

At least one of the studies that was cited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to justify changing their guidance on masks was based on a vaccine that is not authorized for use in America and was rejected by a peer review.

The study in question from researchers in India analyzed vaccine breakthrough in over 100 healthcare workers and claims to show that a COVID-19 Delta variant infection generates a higher viral load in comparison to other variants.

Despite no mention in the study of viral loads from the variant against unvaccinated individuals, the CDC cited it in yesterday’s updated brief as evidence that the Delta variant is transmissible from a vaccinated individual with a breakthrough infection.

“Studies from India with vaccines not authorized for use in the United States have noted relatively high viral loads and larger cluster sizes associated with infections with Delta, regardless of vaccination status,” the CDC said.
